Story History

So you wanna know more about the story, hmm? Glad you came here ^_^ If you don't mind many many paragraphs of ranting and raving, you are in the RIGHT PLACE!!

Deathervescent started out this year in 2004, near the end of may to be exact. I was listening to an Evanescence song when the name Deathervescent popped into my head.

I began to research about an old anime I had heard of before from one of my friends called "Serial Experiments Lain". The minute I saw it I feel in love with it right away (I didn't actually see the anime, but I saw many pictures) the art style was so beautiful and slightly eerie, which to me looked perfect. When I researched deeper into the story, I discovered that the basic plot sounded good, but it was just a little too "out there" for my story to be like that, if you know what I mean. I wanted something more original, even though "Serial Experiments Lain" WAS a big inspiration that helped me develop my drawing style along with some settings.

I started planning the actual storyline of Deathervescent and trying to develop some characters a few weeks later. The original sketches of Meila were not very good because my drawing skills, even after quite a few years, were still very weak. Meila just kind of came out of nowhere... and the cute little buns on the side of her head kind of reminded me of a Chinese style, so I liked her look and stuck with it. Her clothing reminded me a lot of Lain, very baggy and loose fitting, but that was the way I liked it better than tight fitting.

The entire storyline was planned one day while talking to my friend Daphne, things just kept fitting piece by piece into place when I told her the story. Finally in the end after making a few changes, I had the final story I was happy with.

I had attempted to make comics in previous years such as Hong Kong Lights, Two Worlds, and much, much more. All of these were failures. I was younger and a little less experienced at developing stories and all I wanted to do was draw draw draw...my comics were pointless and as I grew older I wanted a comic that went more in depth. I wanted it to be more serious than silly or pointless comics (don't get me wrong, I still love those comics but the kind of comic I wanted to make would be more serious)

I also wanted a moral to the story instead of randomness. When I developed the story at first, it was VERY dark and made little sense when I looked at the big picture. Later the story developed life lessons of the importance of friendship, family, and later at the very end my own Christianity. I am a Christian and Deathervescent is partially a Christian story with references to God, but it also has the Devil and demons in it. It had very little comic releif and if any, it would be a little dark.

Overall, Deathervescent to me seemed like a good storyline with meaning, but in an instant I knew it would not appeal to everyone (oh well, as long as I like it! haha just kidding) but I was fine with that. I can't please everyone in this world, that's just impossible. The audience I would probably main at would be ages 10 and up that are looking for a more serious side of life, a time when the play needs to stop and when you need to get down to buisness. I am happy with the way this is turning out, hopefully in the future I will be able to get my comic published one day.
